About

Benita Stambler

I think I’ve always been a writer of one sort or another. In elementary school, I wrote mysteries that took place in a park near where I lived, solved by four of my friends from school. When I started college, I was an English major for a while, studying the writing of great authors from Shakespeare to T.S. Eliot. To continue, I entered a graduate program in English, furthering my studies of the classics.

During the many years after that, while working at assorted jobs, I began to spend whatever free time I had in writing. First, there were articles for journals, on whatever caught my fancy — Chinese propaganda posters, Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter, Indian folksongs, Coney Island, the tea industry in Sri Lanka. Then, there was a book chapter on cultural exchange and historical photographs, and more articles and websites on photography and history. Along the way I wrote a doctoral thesis, taught college classes, and studied in assorted foreign countries.

In the meantime, I began creating museum exhibitions, combining my love of writing with the study of art, something I’m continuing to this day. But the final transition in my writing began with the pandemic, when people were forced to change their lives and find new ways to entertain themselves. That’s when novel writing took off for me. I had the time, I had the experiences, and I loved researching places and situations. My first novel makes its appearance in 2025, and I have several more in the works.
