What happens when you publish a book? The accolades and money come rolling in. Well, no, not unless it’s a bestseller, which is extremely rare. But other good things can happen as a result. For example, in my case having a book on Amazon and an accompanying website allowed me to reconnect with people I hadn’t seen or heard from in close to fifty years. I am now in touch with my old boss and some other colleagues, and it’s a true pleasure. This photograph shows me (on the left) at a museum restaurant with Jane, who kindly drove about an hour and a half to meet me for a very fun lunch. I hadn’t seen or heard from her since the seventies.
Jane, a work colleague from back in the day, had been cleaning out some old boxes, and came across a photo of people from an office where I had worked many years ago. The photo showed us all wearing matching tee shirts, purchased for us by our boss. It was really a unique environment, one in which people enjoyed going to work every day. From that old photo Jane reached out through Google and Facebook to try and find the rest of us. She was able to contact one person in the office who, unbeknownst to me, knew of my website and book, and gave the information to our old boss and he, in turn, gave it to Jane. Now I know how to contact both of them. And here we are!
Jane and I had a lot of laughs that day, and even the women sitting at the next table joined in. What a great time! Hopefully, there will be many more delightful get-togethers. Take Jane’s advice—don’t wait to get in touch with old friends.
