The Sarasota Library System is having a wonderful event this November. I hadn’t realized that this is something they do every year, but they bring exciting authors to town and have events especially for local writers. This year, I’m very privileged to know one of the speakers personally. My friend Lucy Hedrick will be speaking about her book, Six Weeks in Reno. It’s about a time when it was difficult for women in the US to get divorced, and follows a small group of women who used their courage to break free from their husbands.
There are several other speakers who are important writers. I’ll mention two who are special to me. One is Amy Tan, who has written books like The Joy Luck Club that I read many years ago. She has written a variety of books since then, on subjects ranging from backyard birds to the historical plight of traditional Chinese women. Another famous female writer is Janet Evanovich. Her Stephanie Plum mysteries have brought me a lot of joy, following Stephanie’s escapades, her boyfriends, and her grandmother.
I’ll try to include some of the dates and times in the events part of this website. If I can’t manage it, you can look them all up online at: https://www.sarasotacountylibraries.org/my-library/events/off-the-page
